Somali government media outlets reported that

The Somali National Army (SNA) has killed at least 50 Al-Shabaab militants in an operation in the Middle Shabelle region of Somalia.

Somalia’s state-run news agency said

The fighting took place in the afternoon of Bululow village in Afgoye district.

For their part, Danab commandos told Voice of the Armed Forces radio that more than 50 militants and al-Shabaab operations commanders in the Middle Shabelle region were killed in a battle in Bululow village.

U.S.-backed U.S. military officials say the slain leader was identified as Osman Il Fidow, an al-Shabab operative.

Language media official said militants had been killed and buried horjoogahoodiiba Buuloyareey Kah village in Middle Shabelle region.

It is not the first time Somali forces have claimed to have killed al-Shabab members and leaders of the group.

Al-Shabaab, for its part, has always claimed victory in any confrontation with government forces.
